New Jersey RNs in Post University's NP program: the rules and the search
New Jersey is a Yes state for all three nurse practitioner tracks in Post University's current NP disclosure, so you can enroll from home and finish your clinicals without leaving it. Two New Jersey facts shape the search more than any other: the physician joint protocols that govern NP prescribing, and the Hudson, beyond which New York is closed in Post's table.

Post's disclosure row for New Jersey
New Jersey's credential in Post's table is Advanced Practice Nurse. Both answers are Yes: Post's coursework satisfies New Jersey's education standard for licensing an NP and for prescribing. It names the New Jersey Board of Nursing as governing body, a board that sits under the state's consumer affairs division.

Look at where the physician appears: under prescribing, not under the license itself. That split is the New Jersey model in one line, and it shapes the practices where you will train.
Joint protocols and your preceptor
In AANP's terms New Jersey is a reduced practice state. Any NP ordering drugs or devices in New Jersey keeps joint protocols with a collaborating physician, so every prescribing NP you approach already works alongside a physician partner.
That can help a search. Physicians qualify as Post preceptors, MD or DO alike, and Post's advice is to spend at least two of your clinical courses with NPs, so a practice where NPs and physicians share patients could supply preceptors for several of your courses. The preceptor requirements list what each preceptor must hold, and Post's workplace rules cover training where you already work.
What New Jersey asks of schools from other states
Nothing in New Jersey's board rules, as far as research could find, makes a school from another state ask permission or send notice before its NP students start clinicals there. Chapter 13:37 of the administrative code concerns schools run by New Jersey-licensed institutions, and its section 1.10(c) covers the opposite case: New Jersey programs placing students in other states.
One caveat: when researched, the board's website showed only a security challenge, so guidance posted there could not be read. The catalog puts state requirements with Post's clinical coordinator and compliance officer, so confirm with them before the term.
North, Central and South Jersey: where to look
New Jersey sits inside two giant metros. The New York-Newark-Jersey City metro claims over seven million New Jersey residents, the Philadelphia-Camden-Wilmington metro about 1.4 million more, and the Trenton-Princeton and Atlantic City-Hammonton areas fill in the rest. Hospital systems you will hear about include Hackensack Meridian Health, Virtua Health, RWJBarnabas Health, Atlantic Health System and, in Camden, Cooper University Health Care.
Read that list as a guide to where NP care concentrates, not as sites that take Post students, and Post will need an affiliation agreement with the practice you settle on. Every FNP and AGPCNP hour must be logged in primary care, while PMHNP students need mental health practices treating children, adults and older adults alike.
Licensing and the Hudson line
New Jersey became a compact state in November 2021, and Post's row accepts a New Jersey or multistate RN license. New Jersey is not among the APRN Compact states.
New York is the hard edge. It is outside the compact, and Post's table answers No on both of its questions for New York, so it cannot count as a Post clinical state, even for a North Jersey nurse who works in Manhattan and holds a New York license. The out-of-state options are Pennsylvania and Delaware, compact members with Yes for all three tracks, and each needs Post's prior specialization approval; our Pennsylvania page and the RN license guide explain the steps.

Questions Post students ask
Can a New Jersey student do Post clinicals in New York City?
No. Post limits clinical hours to states its NP disclosure approves, and New York carries a No in both of the table's columns. Holding a New York RN license does not change that. Look for a site in New Jersey, or in Pennsylvania or Delaware with Post's prior specialization approval.
What license will I hold as a New Jersey NP?
Post's table calls it Advanced Practice Nurse, issued by the New Jersey Board of Nursing. For the credential the row lists your RN license and national NP certification; for prescribing it adds a collaborative agreement with a physician, which AANP describes as joint protocols for ordering medications and devices, plus an optional DEA number.
Can a physician be my preceptor in New Jersey?
Yes, within Post's rules. Post's catalog names MD and DO physicians among acceptable preceptors, but its preference runs toward NPs, ideally for every course and at minimum for two. Build a mostly NP plan and let a physician fill the gap where the right NP is not available.
Does my New Jersey multistate license let me train in Pennsylvania?
For RN practice, yes: Pennsylvania's compact membership took full effect on July 7, 2025. For a Post clinical, two more steps apply. Post has to approve, in advance, any clinical time outside the state you live in, and whether a multistate privilege satisfies Post's license rule is the Clinical Coordinator's call. Settle both before a Pennsylvania preceptor signs.
