Typhon: the student tracking system behind Post clinical courses

Post University's catalog calls it the student tracking system; Post's tuition page and its clinical job postings call it Typhon. It is where your preceptor approval forms are found and uploaded, where clinical hours are logged, where preceptors complete your evaluations, and where the catalog tells you to begin a preceptor search.

One system under two names

The catalog never uses the brand name. Its clinical section speaks of "the student tracking system" throughout, while Post's online tuition page lists Typhon Clinical Tracking as one of the third-party tools NP students use, with a separate version for non-NP MSN and DNP students. A Post job posting for the NP clinical team describes uploading students into Typhon and keeping its preceptor information accurate.

The tool predates Post's ownership of the college. American Sentinel's 2021 catalog said clinical hours were tracked by a Practicum Coordinator faculty member using a program called Typhon. When a Post page mentions the tracking system, read it as Typhon unless the Clinical Coordinator tells you otherwise; no other clinical tracking product appears on any Post page.

Step-by-step screens are not public. Your orientation and the Clinical Coordinator are the sources for exactly which fields to fill in and which forms belong to your course. Ask early, in the term before your first preceptorship, so the system is familiar before any deadline depends on it.

Preceptor approval starts with an upload

Post's current catalog says students "begin the preceptor approval process by uploading the appropriate forms into the student tracking system." So the first practical step after a preceptor agrees is inside Typhon: open the forms there, complete them with your preceptor, and upload them back for the Clinical Coordinator to review.

Older catalogs named two forms, one for NP specializations and one for the other MSN specializations and the DNP, and asked preceptors to complete their own section with details about the facility. The current catalog no longer names the forms, so expect your preceptor to supply information in some form and check with the Coordinator which version your course uses.

The upload sits alongside the rest of the Week 1 packet, which is itemized on the Week 1 deadline page. The preceptor agreement letter page covers the documents your preceptor provides.

Hour logs that hold up

Your hour log is how Post tracks progress toward each course's total. Each preceptorship has a total to reach inside one 8-week term: 135 hours in most NP preceptorships and 90 in N 567, adding up to 540 across the FNP or AGPCNP and 630 across the PMHNP. The clinical hours page sets out the full breakdown.

Three habits keep the log clean. Enter each clinical day while the details are fresh, so the date, hours and preceptor match what your preceptor remembers. Compare the running total with your NP Clinical Schedule each week. And keep your CastleBranch account compliant, because Post ties hour logging to a compliant account; a lapsed item can stall your entries until it is fixed, as the CastleBranch page explains.

An hour worked but never entered leaves a gap in the course total. Enter each day's hours before the week is out.

Your preceptor's side of Typhon

Your preceptor also works in Typhon, chiefly to complete your evaluations. The 2022 job posting shows Post's clinical team helping preceptors get into the system and sort out problems finishing student evaluations, which tells you two things: preceptors do need access, and help exists when they struggle with it.

Say so when your preceptor agrees to host you. A busy NP or physician who learns in week 7 that an online evaluation is due may put it off; one who expects it from the start usually finishes on time. Post's public pages describe no faculty site visits, and the detailed evaluation forms sit in the non-public NP Clinical Guidelines, so the preceptor's written evaluation carries real weight. For non-NP practice experiences, the catalog says the Practicum Coordinator evaluates the work.

Using the directory well

Since the 2024-25 catalog, Post has told students to begin their search with the tracking system directory before moving to personal and professional contacts and then widening further. Earlier catalogs started with contacts instead. The catalog does not say the directory is Typhon's, though Typhon is the only tracking system Post names.

Treat each listing as a lead. Call to confirm the clinician still precepts, practices in the setting your course needs and is taking students in your term. Check the license, certification, degree and experience yourself, because a listing is not an approval: the Clinical Coordinator still reviews every preceptor for every course, and each site still needs its affiliation agreement. The find your own preceptor guide covers the rest of the search.

How we set preceptors up for Typhon

Post Preceptor places preceptors who are ready for the tracking side of the role, not just the clinical side. That saves you the awkward mid-term message about an overdue evaluation, and it keeps your approval forms moving the week your preceptor signs on.

  • Every preceptor we introduce hears up front that approval forms, hour confirmation and evaluations run through Post's tracking system.
  • We help you gather the details your approval forms ask for, so the upload goes in complete.
  • We build the NP Clinical Schedule with the preceptor, so your hour log has a plan to track against.
  • We stay in touch through the term and step in with a replacement if a preceptor cannot finish.

Read how it works, or reach the placement desk through the contact page.

Questions Post students ask

Is the student tracking system in Post's catalog the same as Typhon?

In practice, yes. The catalog uses only the generic name, while Post's tuition page and a job posting for the NP clinical team name Typhon, and American Sentinel's 2021 catalog described hours tracked in a program called Typhon. No other clinical tracking product appears on Post's pages. If a course instruction seems to point elsewhere, ask the Clinical Coordinator.

Do DNP and non-NP MSN students use Typhon?

Yes, in their own version. Post's tuition page lists one Typhon version for NP students and a separate one for non-NP MSN and DNP students. Their practice experiences follow different preceptor rules, and the catalog says the Practicum Coordinator evaluates them. See DNP practice hours for the doctoral side.

Are the preceptors in the tracking system directory already approved for me?

No. The directory is a place to find leads, and Post still approves each preceptor and site for each student and course. A listed clinician may have moved, stopped precepting or practice in a setting your course cannot use. Confirm the details directly, check Post's preceptor rules, and submit the approval forms as you would for anyone else.

How will my preceptor evaluate me?

Through Typhon. Preceptors complete student evaluations there, and a Post job posting describes the clinical team helping preceptors reach the system and finish those evaluations. The exact form and timing are in Post's NP Clinical Guidelines, which are not public, so ask the Clinical Coordinator and tell your preceptor early what to expect.

Can I log hours before my preceptor is approved?

Plan on waiting. Approval begins with the forms you upload to the tracking system, the Week 1 packet must be complete, and logging depends on a compliant CastleBranch account. Hours worked before those steps are settled may not count. Ask the Clinical Coordinator when logging opens for your course before your first clinical day.

We check these pages against Post University's own catalog, program pages and published nursing documents. Your course faculty and the Clinical Coordinator have the final word.

Post asks you to select your own preceptor. We make the search the easy part.

Tell us your Post track, your city and your next preceptorship course. We line up preceptors who fit the course, collect the license report, certification and CV the Clinical Coordinator reviews, and start the affiliation agreement early so your Week 1 packet is complete before the term opens.

  • Preceptors matched to the course: primary care for FNP and AGPCNP, mental and behavioral health for PMHNP, doctoral nurse leaders for DNP hours
  • Preceptor agreement letter, license report, certification and CV ready for Post's approval
  • Every preceptorship planned together, close to home in a state where you hold your license and Post's disclosure says yes
