The Post systems a nursing student uses, and what each one holds
An online nursing student at Post University works across a handful of systems: the Student Portal at my.post.edu, the American Sentinel College student site for registration, Moodle for courses, Outlook for e-mail and the Post-ASC Virtual Library, plus CastleBranch, Typhon and the Affiliation Agreement Tracker once clinical work begins. Knowing which one holds which record saves hours when a deadline is close.

The whole map
| System | Where you find it | What you use it for |
|---|---|---|
| Student Portal | my.post.edu | Your hub: classes, e-mail, student record, documents, advisors |
| American Sentinel College student site | my.americansentinel.edu | Registering for nursing courses |
| Moodle | My Classes tile in the portal | Your online classroom for nursing courses |
| Post student e-mail | My Email tile (Outlook, Office 365) | Official messages from Post |
| Post-ASC Virtual Library | Springshare LibGuides, same sign-in as Moodle | Nursing databases and a virtual librarian, day or night |
| CastleBranch | Your CastleBranch account | Compliance records for clinical work |
| Typhon (the student tracking system) | Your Typhon account | Preceptor approval forms, hour logs, evaluations |
| Affiliation Agreement Tracker | An online request form | Asking Post to contract with a clinical site |
The last three are clinical systems with guides of their own; the rest are covered below, roughly in the order most students meet them after admission.
The Student Portal at my.post.edu
Post's Student Portal Guide describes the portal as the central hub, and you reach it with your Post e-mail address as the username. Four tiles do most of the work. My Classes opens your courses (the tile reads "Blackboard or Moodle" because Post's other online programs use Blackboard). My Email opens Outlook. My Student Hub holds your student record, unofficial transcript, finances and profile, along with a Document Center for documents Post requests and files you upload. My Team shows your advisors.
Nursing students are assigned a Student Success Advisor at enrollment, and the catalog describes an enrollment team of an admission advisor, a Student Success Advisor and a financial aid advisor. The Student Success Advisor is the person for course planning and registration questions; clinical approvals belong to the Clinical Coordinator, as the roles page explains.
Registering for your next course
American Sentinel College students register through the online registration system on their student site, reached through "Register Now" on the site's "I want to" menu. Post's online students can also request registration through a "View and Register for Classes" tile in the portal, which the Student Success Advisor approves. The catalog asks students to register by the end of the current term's add and drop period.
Two clinical rules touch registration. NP students take one course per 8-week term, and a compliant CastleBranch account is a condition for registering in NP courses beyond the 3P courses. Keep both in view when you plan a preceptorship: the registration itself is quick, but the compliance and Week 1 packet behind it are not. Post's term calendar is explained on the 8-week terms page.
Moodle and the live sessions
Moodle is the classroom for nursing courses. Post's orientation for the college teaches how to move around the online classroom and how to format and upload an assignment there, and the college bookstore is reached through the Student Center in Moodle. Orientation itself is an online, interactive course, and it includes a Turnitin tutorial.
Online does not mean entirely on your own schedule. NP courses include synchronous activities, such as exams, virtual presentations, group work and the final graduation meeting, and the catalog makes attendance mandatory, with missed sessions able to cost a course. Every student must also post in Week 1. Block those dates before you agree clinical days with a preceptor, so the NP Clinical Schedule never collides with a live session.
E-mail, the library and academic help
Your Post student e-mail runs on Microsoft Outlook through Office 365, and Post's IT department issues both it and your classroom access. Treat it as the channel of record: clinical staff, your advisor and your faculty all reach you there.
The Post-ASC Virtual Library is built on Springshare LibGuides, uses the same sign-in as Moodle and is open around the clock. Its database list includes EBSCOhost collections such as CINAHL with Full Text, Medline Complete and Nursing Reference Center, ProQuest Nursing & Allied Health, ProQuest Dissertations and Theses, and OVID nursing collections, with a 24/7 virtual librarian service. Main-campus students use the Traurig Library instead. For tutoring and writing help, the catalog points to the Center for Academic Success. FNP and AGPCNP students lean on the library late in the program too, when N 598 asks them to design an evidence-based quality-improvement project in primary care.
Third-party course tools
Some tools in your courses come from outside companies rather than Post. Post names Shadow Health, Shadow Health Pharmacology for NP students, EHRGo, the APEA 3P exam for NP students, and Typhon, and describes them as provided by third parties. Practice experiences in the college also use Sentinel U simulations; one catalog example is "EXPLORE 'Sentinel City'." Transcripts are ordered through Parchment. Each course syllabus tells you which of these tools that course uses and when.
The APEA 3P exam matters most for placement timing, because passing it at 67% or higher opens the NP specialty courses and is the natural moment to start your preceptor search. The 3P exam page explains the gate.
Where the clinical paperwork goes
Clinical documents are split across three systems, and knowing which is which prevents the classic Week 1 mistake of uploading the right file to the wrong place.
- CastleBranch holds your compliance record: background check, drug screen, immunizations, RN license, CPR and the rest. See the CastleBranch guide.
- Typhon, the student tracking system, holds the preceptor approval forms you upload, your hour logs and your preceptor's evaluations. See the Typhon guide.
- The Affiliation Agreement Tracker starts the contract between the college and your site. See the affiliation agreement guide.
For any Week 1 item whose destination is unclear, ask the Clinical Coordinator before the term starts. Post Preceptor hands you the preceptor's documents ready for the right system, and our how it works page shows where we fit.
Questions Post students ask
Why does my portal say Blackboard or Moodle?
Because Post runs two classrooms. Nursing courses in the American Sentinel College use Moodle, while Post's other online programs use Blackboard, and the same My Classes tile serves both. As a nursing student, expect your courses, assignments and the college bookstore link to live in Moodle.
Where do I register for my next NP course?
On the American Sentinel College student site, through "Register Now" on its "I want to" menu; the portal also offers a "View and Register for Classes" request that your Student Success Advisor approves. Before registering for an NP course past the 3P set, make sure CastleBranch shows you compliant and your preceptor plan for that term is settled.
Which system shows my unofficial transcript?
My Student Hub in the Student Portal. It holds your student record, unofficial transcript, finances and profile, plus a Document Center for documents Post asks for and files you upload. Official transcripts are ordered through Parchment rather than the portal. The unofficial copy is also a quick way to confirm your 3P courses and grades are recorded before you register for the next NP course.
Can I reach the Virtual Library late at night?
Yes. Post describes the Post-ASC Virtual Library as available 24/7, using the same sign-in as Moodle, and orientation mentions a 24/7 virtual librarian service. That suits working nurses who study after a shift, and it is where you will find CINAHL and the other nursing databases for course papers.
Who do I contact about a problem with a system?
It depends on the system. Post's IT department issues student e-mail and classroom access. Registration and course planning go to your Student Success Advisor. Clinical systems, such as a stuck CastleBranch item or a question about approval forms in Typhon, go to the Clinical Coordinator or the compliance officer.
