N 599 is the final preceptorship for Post University FNP and AGPCNP students, the course where both tracks meet again after their separate family and aging branches. It pairs with N 598, a didactic course built around planning a quality improvement project for primary care. Post lists no hours for N 599 by itself; with 540 hours across four preceptorships, 135 is the implied share. The older record agrees: in 2019 American Sentinel University's FNP and AGPCNP pages put N 599 at 135 hours and counted 45 clinical hours to each credit. Because nothing follows it but graduation, a late start or an unfinished term here costs more than anywhere else.

Where the two tracks meet again
The catalog calls the course Advanced Practice Nursing Integration Preceptorship Experience; Post's 2024 schedule shortened it to Advanced Practice Nursing Preceptorship Experience. Its own description could not be retrieved, so its details come from the didactic course that precedes it.
That course, N 598 Advanced Practice Nursing Integration, lists as its prerequisite either N 584 and N 585 or N 588 and N 589. In other words, FNP students arrive from maternal and child care and AGPCNP students from aging, and both finish with N 598 and N 599. The mapping is inferred from those prerequisites, and because courses run singly, N 598 takes the term immediately before N 599.
Remember that the 135 is an inference, not a published number, and let the syllabus or the Clinical Coordinator give you the figure to plan against.
What N 598 adds to the clinical term
According to its 2021-22 description, N 598 asks students to plan an evidence-based quality improvement effort for a primary care setting. That gives the final pair a different flavor from the earlier ones: alongside patient care, you are thinking about how a practice works and how its care could improve.
Whether the project draws on your N 599 site is a question for your faculty, not something Post's published text settles. Still, a preceptor who is comfortable talking through the practice's workflows, protocols and outcome tracking can make a design exercise concrete. When you interview prospective preceptors for this course, ask how the practice handles quality measures and whether staff would mind you asking questions about them.
The integration title matters for the setting, too. A practice that sees the full population of your track, all ages for the FNP, adolescents through older adults for the AGPCNP, lets you pull the earlier courses together in one place.
Count your NP preceptors before you choose
Post's catalog recommends at least two NP-precepted clinical courses, 50% of the four, and names NPs for all four as the preference. By the time you plan N 599, three preceptorships are behind you, so this is the last chance to act on that recommendation.
Tally them honestly. If two or more of your earlier preceptors were NPs, you have met the recommendation and can choose the best available preceptor, NP or physician. If only one was, an NP for N 599 brings you to two. If none were, one course cannot close the gap, which is worth raising with the Clinical Coordinator while you plan. What rides on the final term
Several Post rules converge here. The passing line in graduate nursing courses is a B (83%), with a B- treated as a fail. Once past the 3P exam, NP students get a single repeat of an NP-specific course, so a repeat here may be the only one available. Both primary care tracks carry a 36-month ceiling, against the 28 months Post advertises.
Short hours carry a cost too. Any extension touching clinical hours runs through the Clinical Coordinator, the two-week ASC extension opens only once half the work is done, and work still unfinished afterward means repeating the course with all its clinicals. Attendance at the NP tracks' required synchronous sessions counts as well, and Post names a final graduation meeting as one of them.

Setting up N 599 without a gap
Aim to have N 599 settled before N 598 begins, so that the didactic term is spent on the project rather than on the search. If your N 583, N 585 or N 589 preceptor fits the whole-track population and would take you again, that is often the quickest path, since the site's affiliation agreement is already executed.
Whoever it is, the Week 1 packet applies in full. Confirm your CastleBranch items are current, since the annual background check and drug screen may fall due late in the program, and give the preceptor the NP Clinical Schedule early: roughly 17 hours in each of the eight weeks, with no later term to absorb a shortfall. There is no published hour count for N 599 alone. Divide the 540 precepted hours of the FNP or AGPCNP by four preceptorships and you get 135, which matches the two courses that do have printed figures. Use the syllabus or the Clinical Coordinator for the official number.
Do both primary care tracks finish with N 599?
Yes. The prerequisites for N 598 accept either the aging pair or the maternal and child pair, so both tracks finish with N 598 and N 599. Your practice should still fit your own track's population: all ages for the FNP, adolescents through older adults for the AGPCNP.
Can I return to my N 581 preceptor for N 599?
Post's published rules do not bar precepting the same student twice, and each preceptor is approved by the Clinical Coordinator course by course. A returning preceptor can shorten the setup, but weigh Post's NP recommendation and whether that practice sees the full population your track calls for.
What happens if I do not finish N 599's hours by the end of the term?
Ask the Clinical Coordinator about a clinical-hour extension before the term ends. The two-week ASC extension needs half the course work finished, and anything still undone after it means retaking the course, clinicals included, which may use up your single post-3P repeat.
Does N 599 include live online sessions?
It may. Required synchronous activities in the NP tracks are set course by course and can include tests, virtual presentations and a final graduation meeting. Post does not publish which course holds which session, so check the N 598 and N 599 syllabi as soon as they open.
