New York: the neighbor Post University's NP tracks leave out
New York shares a border with Connecticut, where Post University is based, yet Post's current NP disclosure answers No for New York on the NP license and on prescriptive authority, and New Yorkers are outside Post's NP recruiting and enrollment. It also remains outside the Nurse Licensure Compact. For a Post student in western Connecticut, the state line is a hard edge for clinicals; for a New York RN, Post's NP tracks are not an option from home.

The asterisk on this row predates the current file: New York carried the same No, and the same enrollment footnote, in Post's 2023 version. Notice what the requirements cell asks for, a New York RN license specifically, with no multistate option, which fits New York's place outside the compact.
How New York polices clinicals by outside programs
New York licenses nurses through NYSED, the State Education Department, whose Office of the Professions does the work a board does elsewhere. Its rule for schools outside New York is sweeping. Online and out-of-state nursing programs need NYSED's registration or approval before any student starts a clinical rotation in the state, federal VA and armed forces sites excepted, and for NP students it is the NP program that must be registered. NYSED even warns that NP rotations outside a registered program may be unlawful.
Its college evaluation office adds that such a placement creates physical presence, which SARA does not cover, so the Office of the Professions must approve or exempt it ahead of time. None of this reaches a Post student, since Post's own clinical rule keeps NP hours out of New York before any New York rule applies.
No compact, and a hard line at the border
Connecticut joined the Nurse Licensure Compact on October 1, 2025; New York has not, and no bill is pending there. In practice a Connecticut multistate license works up to the border and not past it, and NYSED sends RNs from other states through its own licensing process. The APRN Compact is law in neither state.
For a Post NP student the license is only half the problem. Post permits clinical hours solely in states its disclosure approves, so a Connecticut student who also holds a New York RN license still cannot log hours at a New York practice; the license rules page explains the approved-state rule. One name crosses the border: Northwell Health runs New York hospitals and, since its 2025 merger with Nuvance Health, hospitals in Danbury, Norwalk, New Milford and Sharon, Connecticut. Practice in New York, for readers who live there
AANP lists New York as full practice. The fine print: a physician collaborator, a written agreement and protocols stay attached to each NP until 3,600 hours of practice are behind them, which explains the collaborative agreement in Post's row. The city's big systems include NYC Health + Hospitals, the public one, alongside Mount Sinai, NewYork-Presbyterian and Northwell; upstate, Rochester has UR Medicine, and the Buffalo and Albany areas are the other large markets. They matter to students of NYSED-registered programs, not to Post's.

Questions Post students ask
Can I study in Post's NP program if I live in New York?
Post's current NP disclosure says No for New York on both licensure questions and marks it with the asterisk that keeps New York residents out of Post's NP recruiting and enrollment, as the 2023 version did. If another Post page seems to say otherwise, get a written answer from admissions.
I live in Connecticut and work at a New York hospital. Can I do clinicals at work?
Not at that hospital. Post allows workplace clinicals with the right preceptor, but only in approved states, and New York is not one. Your Connecticut address and license keep all three tracks open at home, so plan hours at a Connecticut site.
Does a Connecticut multistate license let me work as an RN in New York?
No. Only a New York license, issued by NYSED, covers RN work there. For Post clinicals even that license would not help, since Post's table does not approve New York.
Is a VA facility in New York an exception for Post clinicals?
NYSED's registration requirement skips federal sites such as VA clinics. Post's rule is a separate matter and turns on geography: NP hours must fall in states Post's disclosure approves. A VA clinic in New York is still in New York, so it does not fit Post's rule as written.
