The board's recognition step reaches NP programs
North Dakota's board applies its distance-education recognition to out-of-state programs whose students are working toward LPN, RN or APRN licensure in the state's facilities. A Post NP student training in Fargo or Bismarck fits that definition, and the program's request is due 60 days ahead of student activity.
A roster follows every semester, sent before anyone starts. It names the students with their North Dakota or compact licenses, lists sites and courses, attaches resumes and licenses for preceptors and faculty, and adds the affiliation agreements with each facility's confirmation of space. Recognition also calls for proof of NC-SARA approval or state authorization; Post takes part in SARA.

Practice rules and where NP students look
AANP classifies North Dakota as full practice. That label does not settle who can precept you; Post's catalog standard does, and the preceptor requirements page lays it out.
Clinical capacity clusters in four metro areas. Fargo, about 270,000 people counting its Minnesota side, holds Essentia Health-Fargo as well as Sanford Broadway Medical Center. Bismarck, near 140,000, pairs Sanford's medical center there with CHI St. Alexius Health of the CommonSpirit family. Altru Health System anchors Grand Forks, and Trinity Health serves Minot. FNP and AGPCNP students search for primary care clinics in these networks; PMHNP students look for behavioral health services that see children and adults. These are starting points for a search, not sites with any Post arrangement.
Your license: in the compact, beside a state that is not
North Dakota has honored multistate RN licenses since the compact's January 19, 2018 launch. One issued here also covers you in South Dakota, Montana and other member states, and Post's CastleBranch license item accepts it.
Minnesota breaks the pattern. It has no pending compact bill, yet the Fargo and Grand Forks metro areas both extend into it. To train with a preceptor there you would need a separate Minnesota RN license plus Post's advance approval for an out-of-state clinical, even though Minnesota is a Yes in Post's table.
The APRN Compact, which North Dakota adopted in March 2021, sits idle until seven states enact it and concerns your future NP license rather than the RN license Post checks.

Yes. The PMHNP is a Yes for North Dakota in Post's current NP disclosure, as are the FNP and AGPCNP. You must live here with an active, unencumbered RN license, and your 630 precepted hours take place at psychiatric and behavioral health sites that treat children through older adults.
Does the North Dakota Board of Nursing need to know about my Post clinicals?
Yes, through Post. The board's distance recognition covers programs placing APRN-track students in North Dakota facilities, with a request 60 days ahead and a report on students, preceptors and sites each semester. Post files it, so confirm with the Clinical Coordinator when your details are due.
Could my preceptor be across the border in Minnesota?
Only if you hold a Minnesota RN license and Post approves the clinical in advance, since it is outside your state of residence. Minnesota sits outside the Nurse Licensure Compact, and a multistate license from North Dakota has no force there, though Post's table lists Minnesota as a Yes.
Is North Dakota part of the APRN Compact?
The state enacted it in 2021, but the compact only becomes operational once seven states have, and it would govern your NP license after graduation. For Post clinicals, what matters is an active RN license in each state where you log hours.
