Utah and Post University's NP programs: the PMHNP is now listed, and Utah's rules for outside programs
Utah RNs now have all three Post University NP tracks open. The current NP disclosure marks Utah Yes for the FNP, AGPCNP and PMHNP, and the PMHNP is the newcomer, absent from the 2023 version of the table. Older Post material still tells a different story, and a Utah rule for out-of-state programs decides whose license a preceptor may hold.

Post lists the Board of Nursing as governing body; in Utah that board works within the Division of Professional Licensing (DOPL). The license cell asks for an active RN license without naming Utah, and the prescribing cell ties extra continuing education to solo practice under 2,000 hours, a post-graduation matter to confirm with DOPL.
The PMHNP in Utah: new on the table, missing from a 2024 flyer
Post's earlier table, a file created in September 2023, listed only the AGPCNP or FNP for Utah. The version Post links now adds the PMHNP, as it does for Maryland. A PMHNP partner program sheet Post dated January 2024 still left out Utah and Maryland, so a Utah nurse holding that flyer could conclude the track is closed.
Before you enroll or switch tracks, ask admissions to confirm in writing that the PMHNP is open to Utah residents under the current table.
The PMHNP itself is a big search: 630 precepted hours spread across five preceptorships in psychiatric and behavioral health settings covering all ages, including a child and adolescent course (N 563) and a 90-hour course centered on adolescents with substance misuse (N 567). What Utah requires of out-of-state programs
Utah's R156-31b-609 applies whenever a school based in another state puts nursing students in Utah facilities for clinical or practicum experience; graduate programs get no exemption. Before placement the school has to show four things: its home board's approval plus accreditation by a nursing accreditor with Education Department recognition; faculty it employs directly, who satisfy its accreditor's and home state's standards, and carry Utah or compact licensure for in-person supervision; a written approach to selecting and supervising preceptors, faculty and sites; and, each August 1, a report giving its Utah student count, attesting to licensure and confirming accreditation.
Those duties sit with Post, handled through its Clinical Coordinator and compliance officer. The part that shapes your search is narrower: when an out-of-state program's student trains in Utah, the preceptor's license, in good standing, must come from Utah or a compact state.
Preceptors along the Wasatch Front and in St. George
AANP rates Utah a full practice state. On top of Utah's license condition, Post applies its own preceptor standard, set out in the preceptor requirements guide.
Greater Salt Lake City, the Provo-Orem area and Ogden together hold more than 2.7 million people, and St. George adds a fourth metro in the south. Large systems include MountainStar Healthcare (part of HCA), Intermountain Health, and University of Utah Health; for a PMHNP student, community mental health centers and outpatient psychiatric practices can matter more than any hospital name.
Licensing: a compact state, and an early APRN Compact adopter
Utah is a compact state, listed by NCSBN with a January 19, 2018 implementation date, and a multistate RN license issued by Utah also works in Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado and New Mexico, all Yes states in Post's table. Nevada sits outside the compact, and Arizona answers No in Post's table. Hours outside Utah need Post's prior specialization approval, explained in the license rules for clinicals.
Utah adopted the separate APRN Compact too, signed March 24, 2022. It needs seven enacting states before it operates, so no multistate NP license exists under it yet.

Questions Post students ask
Can I take Post's PMHNP if I live in Utah?
Yes. The current disclosure puts a Yes beside the PMHNP for Utah, next to the FNP and AGPCNP. The 2023 version of the table and Post's January 2024 PMHNP flyer both left Utah out, so ask admissions to confirm the current answer in writing before you enroll.
Can my Utah preceptor hold an Idaho license instead of a Utah one?
Utah's rule for out-of-state programs accepts a preceptor whose license, in good standing, is from Utah or any compact state, and Idaho is one. The preceptor must still meet Post's own standard, and the Clinical Coordinator approves every preceptor before your hours count.
What does the 2,000-hour note in Post's Utah row mean?
It sits in the prescriptive-authority cell: Post lists extra continuing education for Utah NPs whose solo practice experience is under 2,000 hours, plus an optional DEA number. It concerns practice after graduation; DOPL has the details.
Does Utah's APRN Compact law give me a multistate NP license?
Not yet. Utah signed on in March 2022, but the compact switches on only after seven states have enacted it. For now NP licenses stay state-issued, though your RN license can be multistate.
