The American Sentinel College at Post University: one college, several names
The American Sentinel College of Nursing & Health Sciences at Post University is Post's online nursing school. Post created it in March 2021 by acquiring American Sentinel University, an online school from Colorado, and a related company, Sentinel U, which is why the American Sentinel name still appears on your student site, your forms and your simulations. The rules for your clinicals, though, come from Post's catalog.

How the college came to be
Post's catalog gives the origin in one sentence: "In March 2021, Post University established the American Sentinel College of Nursing & Health Sciences by acquiring American Sentinel University and a related entity, Sentinel U." The college's About page is shorter still: "Acquired by Post University in 2021 and renamed American Sentinel College of Nursing & Health Sciences."
American Sentinel University was an online school based in Colorado, and its pages under Post describe more than 15 years of online nursing education. Post's catalog shortens the college's name to ASC. It sits inside Post's Online Degree Programs, and every program it runs is online and post-licensure: RN to BSN, RN to BSN/MSN, the MSN with eight specializations (a nurse who already holds an MSN reaches the NP tracks through a second MSN, since Post lists no post-master's NP certificate), the MSN/MBA-Healthcare, the DNP and a graduate certificate in Infection Prevention and Control.

What carried over from American Sentinel
The clearest carry-over is the DNP. American Sentinel's online DNP earned ACEN accreditation in 2014, and Post dates its DNP graduates back to that year; the program holds continuing ACEN accreditation today and now has four leadership specializations. The nurse practitioner tracks came across as well. American Sentinel's own program pages described the FNP and AGPCNP in 2019 and the PMHNP by 2020, with the same preceptorship courses Post lists today, the same totals of 540 and 630 clinical hours, and no residency requirement.
So did the online model. The college's page says administrative offices are on Post's Waterbury campus, that students have no physical classroom requirement, and that clinical rotations and practice learning experiences, when needed, are typically arranged in students' local areas. Sentinel U's simulations also appear in the curriculum: ASC practice experiences use them, and one catalog example sends students to explore "Sentinel City."
What arrived under Post
The NP specializations moved onto post.edu in mid-2021, with the FNP page dated May 27, 2021, and the first Post catalog seen with all eight MSN specializations, NP tracks included, is the 2021-22 edition. The set has not changed since: FNP, AGPCNP and PMHNP. Post's catalog now writes the clinical rules, and several have tightened, including a longer Week 1 checklist and primary care only hours for the AGPCNP; the clinical hours history traces them.
Post also brought its own systems and rulebook. Your student e-mail and the Student Portal are Post's, the University Catalog governs your program, and the online advising and financial aid staff work from the Howland Hughes building in downtown Waterbury, which Post has leased since 2018. How the college runs clinicals now
Clinical work at ASC follows Post's catalog and a small set of roles. Your Student Success Advisor is assigned when you enroll and handles course planning and registration. For NP students, site and preceptor approval rests with the Clinical Coordinator, whom the catalog sometimes calls the NP Clinical Coordinator, and the Practicum Coordinator is the counterpart for practice experiences in the other tracks. A compliance officer works with students on state and clinical requirements, and Academic Affairs staff reach out to sites about affiliation agreements.
The contract itself is between ASC and the facility you choose. You request it through the Affiliation Agreement Tracker, and Post's catalog puts the choice of site and preceptor with each NP student. Explaining the college to a preceptor
A preceptor or practice manager who has never heard of the college needs about four facts: it is Post University's nursing school, based in Waterbury, Connecticut; its programs are online and for licensed RNs; you are in a named graduate course with set clinical hours; and Post's Clinical Coordinator approves the placement, with a contract between the college and the practice.
Some clinicians remember American Sentinel University from before 2021. If the name comes up, the answer is simple: American Sentinel became Post's nursing college in 2021, and its NP tracks, DNP and online model continued under Post. Using the full name, American Sentinel College of Nursing & Health Sciences at Post University, on the first contact keeps the paperwork consistent later, because the affiliation agreement is written in the college's name.

The college is Post's nursing school, and Post's catalog governs its programs, including every rule for NP clinicals and practice experiences.
Why does my registration site say americansentinel.edu?
Post's catalog sends American Sentinel College students to the registration system on their own student site, found at my.americansentinel.edu. Post's Student Portal at my.post.edu is the wider hub for your classes, e-mail and the Student Hub, and your Student Success Advisor approves registration requests.
Do American Sentinel College students ever go to the Waterbury campus?
No nursing program requires it. The college's administrative offices are on Post's Waterbury campus, but there is no physical classroom requirement, and clinicals are arranged where you live. NP courses include mandatory live online sessions, and in-person graduation is optional.
Which catalog applies to American Sentinel College students?
Post University's catalog. Its Additional Nursing Information section holds the clinical rules, and the 2026-27 edition is now published. Our guides quote the 2025-26 edition, the newest whose nursing pages we could open, so confirm details in the current catalog and with the Clinical Coordinator.
Who at the American Sentinel College approves my clinical site?
For NP students, the Clinical Coordinator signs off on the site and the preceptor, checks your paperwork and rules on whether you can start the clinical course. For the practice experiences of the DNP and the non-NP MSN tracks, the catalog names the Practicum or Clinical Coordinator, and exception requests go to the practicum coordinator.
