Post's MSN in Leadership or Case Management, and the MSN/MBA
Post University's MSN in Management and Organizational Leadership and its MSN in Case Management are 36-credit degrees, each with 400 practice hours under the 2025-26 catalog, while the MSN/MBA-Healthcare pairs the leadership MSN with an MBA across 60 credits. All three share N 508PE and the N 555PE capstone. Their precepted courses need a master's-prepared nurse employed at the site, and for leaders the hard part is that it cannot be the person you report to.

Three programs compared
Both MSN tracks are non-NP specializations offered by the American Sentinel College of Nursing & Health Sciences at Post University; the dual degree takes the leadership track and adds an MBA in healthcare. Admission asks for a nursing bachelor's with a 3.0 GPA (Case Management and the MSN/MBA also list an MSN as an option), and the MSN tracks ask for an RN license.

You can take the MSN tracks term by term, one 8-week class after another, or in 16-week SIMPath semesters; new students start every month in either format. Graduate students get five years to finish, extendable by a year on petition, and the passing grade in nursing courses is a B (83%).
Management and Organizational Leadership, course by course
Six leadership courses sit on Post's 2025-26 preceptor list. Hours below are taken from the 2021-22 course descriptions, since later ones were unreadable, and two courses had no description on file.

N 545PE follows N 530PE in the competency-based sequence. N 525 and N 540 appear with no PE on Post's 2024-25 program pages but with it in the 2025-26 preceptor table, so confirm with the Practicum Coordinator whether those two carry precepted hours in your catalog year. The natural preceptor for this track is a master's-prepared nurse leader, such as a manager, director or chief nursing officer, employed at the site.
Case Management, course by course
Case Management places three 45-hour courses and the capstone on the preceptor list. N 508PE Clinical and Administrative Systems is shared with the leadership and informatics tracks. N 543PE Case Management and Evidence-Based Practice and N 544PE Life Care Planning both follow N 541, and each carried 45 hours in 2021-22. The capstone, N 555PE, carried 130.
Case managers work across hospitals, health plans, home health and rehabilitation, so the range of possible sites is wider than for most tracks. Whatever the setting, Post's catalog ties a precepted practice experience to a healthcare site and to a preceptor who works for that site. If your best option is a payer or another setting outside direct care, ask the Practicum Coordinator whether it counts for the course before anyone agrees to precept.
Look for a master's-prepared RN case manager or case management leader. A certified case manager without a master's or without an RN license falls outside the standard rule and would need Post's exception form.
The MSN/MBA-Healthcare
The dual degree joins the Management and Organizational Leadership MSN to an MBA in healthcare: 60 credits, set out in the 2024-25 catalog as 20 courses of 3 credits each. The advertised length is 42 months; the 2024-25 catalog listed 3 years and 4 months.
The catalog prints no separate practice-hour total for the dual degree, so ask Post for the current figure. Its 2024-25 course list shows the practice-experience courses as N 501PE, N 524PE, N 530PE, N 508PE, N 545PE and N 555PE. Its core also differed from other MSN pages that year, using N 514 Integrated Advanced Pathopharmacology and N 524PE Advanced Health Assessment where the RN to BSN/MSN listed N 512, N 521 and N 522PE.
The precepted courses follow the leadership MSN's rules, so the preceptor profile, a master's-prepared nurse leader at the site, carries straight over. None of the MBA courses appears on Post's preceptor list.
How the hours land week by week
Most precepted courses in these tracks are light on a weekly basis. A 45-hour course such as N 508PE, N 530PE, N 543PE or N 544PE comes to about six hours a week across an 8-week term, and the 15-hour N 545PE to about two, by our arithmetic from the 2021-22 figures. Where a course runs across a full 16-week SIMPath semester, those loads roughly halve.
The capstone is the exception. At 130 hours, N 555PE needs a little over 16 hours in each week of an 8-week term, which is hard to fit around a leadership job unless the project and the site were chosen with that in mind. Case Management students have a planning advantage: N 543PE and N 544PE share a prerequisite and a subject, so a single case management leader at one site may suit both, if Post approves the same preceptor twice.
The preceptor rule that catches leaders
On paper, a leadership or case management preceptor needs what any non-NP MSN preceptor needs: graduate preparation at the master's level or above, an RN license valid where they work, and a job at the site. For leadership and case management students the clause that bites is a different one: the preceptor cannot be your direct supervisor.
It is natural to complete practice hours where you work, and the person best placed to teach you management is usually the one you report to. Post rules that person out. A director in another department, a master's-prepared case management manager on a different unit, or a leader at another facility in your system where you complete the hours can fill the role instead. Family members and fellow students in your program are also off the list; the workplace practicum guide and who cannot precept you cover the edges.
Your own manager is the obvious choice and the one Post excludes: pick a master's-prepared leader you do not report to.

Questions Post students ask
Can my nurse manager precept my leadership practicum at Post?
Not if you report to them. Post excludes a student's direct supervisor as a preceptor. Another master's-prepared leader employed at the same site can precept you, and so can a qualified leader at a different site where you complete the hours. Post's exception form is the route for other gaps, such as a missing master's.
How many practice hours does Post's MSN/MBA-Healthcare require?
Post's catalog prints no separate total for the dual degree. Its MSN side is the Management and Organizational Leadership track, which counts 400 practice hours as a standalone MSN, and the 2024-25 list shows six practice-experience courses. Ask your Student Success Advisor for the current figure before you plan your terms.
Which practice courses do the Leadership and Case Management tracks share?
N 508PE Clinical and Administrative Systems sits on both tracks' preceptor lists, and on Nursing Informatics as well, at 45 hours in its 2021-22 description. Every non-NP MSN track also ends with the N 555PE capstone. The remaining practice courses belong to each track alone.
What is N 544PE at Post?
N 544PE Life Care Planning is a Case Management course. Its 2021-22 description gave 45 practice hours and listed N 541 as the prerequisite, the same as N 543PE Case Management and Evidence-Based Practice. Both are on Post's preceptor list, so each needs a master's-prepared preceptor employed at the site.
Is there a DNP after Post's leadership MSN?
